How do you make young people want to learn? The German textbook »Gute Idee!« attracts attention with exciting, sometimes curious stories. The focus here is not on »learning«, but on engaging young people in dialog and discussion. In doing so, they learn the language almost casually. The lightness of the content concept is also reflected in the overall design of the textbook series. The covers show young people visually underpinning the expression »Gute Idee!« with their body language in different ways. Illustrative elements are reminiscent of doodles during lessons. The »scribbled« symbols from the teen universe are incorporated into the navigation concept of the books. Based on the design of magazines, a topic is presented on generously designed double pages at the start of each lesson. This start whets the reader’s appetite to find out more. Yellow plays a special role in the layout design. As a color that visualizes the »enlightening« aspect of a good idea, it provides orientation and runs through the entire textbook. It can be found again in the young people’s clothing on the cover and in overarching elements such as the pictogram and navigation system. Small yellow light bulbs next to the page number show the students’ learning progress, a symbol for their »enlightenment status«, so to speak. The other color concept provides for three color spaces in violet, green and red. They mark the modules or lessons. At the same time, they are also transferred to the color concept of the covers and symbolize the different levels.
